Where the heck is Lincoln Beach??

I get asked that quite a bit along with "Where in the heck is there a beach in Missouri?"! So I took a short pictorial walkthrough and put it up here for others to enjoy.

You see, back in the 20s and 30s this was the area "in the country" that the "city folk" would go to on the weekend to enjoy. This place was Lincoln Beach! Small river towns thrived on this 'tourism' and I hope soon to have pictures from this time period as well to share with everyone.

Anyway the "country" is now the "city" except in this area, it was converted into a State Park, known as Castlewood State Park. It is nestled in the western part of the suburbs of St. Louis, Missouri.

This is the same park where we had the 1st Annual Lincoln Beach Software Picnic. Hopefully there will be a second if I have the time<g>.

Looking out through the trees to the field ahead.

Lots of bees this time of the year!

A nice walk through the field, total walk is probably 1 mile round trip.

A little further along on the walk.

bzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!

Yes we are almost there!

This is a platform that used to be used in the 1920s to get down to the river.

Peaking through the brush we can almost see it!

Some nice scenery along the way.

More flowers.

Tada! Yes this sand bar was the gathering place for many a city folk in the 1920s through the 1930s!

Thought this was a neat shot.

Higking back through the woods on the trail.

Whew, back to the field, only a little farther back to civilization!

Hope you enjoyed the tour!
